A plate girder bridge is a bridge supported by two or more plate girders. Plate girder bridges are suitable for short to long spans, including support railroads, highways, or other traffic. MaiCo Industries prefabricates plate girders up to 120' long.
Folded Steel Plate Girder for Bridges
The folded plate bridge girder is used for accelerating the construction of short span bridges.
In 2018, the American Institute of Steel Construction awarded a Special Award to the Folded Steel Plate Bridge for Technological Advancement. The Bridge is located in Muskingum County, Ohio.
Sandwich Plate System (SPS) for Bridges
With the Sandwich Plate System (SPS), the need for pouring concrete is eliminated. SPS is an alternative to reinforced concrete for bridge decks and has many benefits.
SPS bridges are 70% lighter than concrete
Prefabrication allows faster and safer construction
Repairs can be completed without closing the bridge to traffic
CSA W47.1 FUSION WELDING OF STEEL COMPANY CERTIFICATION The Canadian Standards Association sets the criteria for Standard W47.1. Maico Industries is a member of the Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance,https://www.shortspansteelbridges.organd actively works with engineers as they develop plans for a bridge using the Folded Plate Bridge or SPS technology. The Short Span Steel Bridge Alliance (SSSBA) is a group of bridge and buried soil structure industry leaders who have joined together to provide educational information on the design and construction of short span steel bridges in installations up to 140 feet in length.
AAHSTO, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials https://www.transportation.org is a standards setting body which publishes specifications, test protocols and guidelines which are used in highway design and construction throughout the United States. Despite its name, the association represents not only highways but air, rail, water, and public transportation as well.[1]
The voting membership of AASHTO consists of the Department of Transportation of each state in the United States, as well as those of Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. The United States Department of Transportation, some U.S. cities, counties and toll-road operators, most Canadian provinces as well as the Hong Kong Highways Department, the Turkish Ministry of Public Works and Settlement and the Nigerian Association of Public Highway and Transportation Officials have non-voting associate memberships.[1]
Though it sets transportation standards and policy for the United States as a whole, AASHTO is not an agency of the federal government; rather it is an organization of the states themselves. Policies of AASHTO are not federal laws or policies, but rather are ways to coordinate state laws and policies in the field of transportation.
